How to play Odachi

Odachi is the heavy answer inside the Ten-Chi-Jin triangle. When an enemy leans on odachi, polearm mass, or armored strings, the matching style advantage lets your Countersparks land like sledgehammers. The cost is commitment: every swing you start must either hit, force a block, or be canceled into a parry.

Build odachi loadouts around one reliable opener and one high-damage Martial Skill. You do not need eight buttons if two of them reliably create a vulnerable state. Keep a lighter off-weapon (paired swords or sabre) ready for rooms full of agile foes so you are not locked into heavy recovery forever.

Upgrade materials for odachi often come from the same dens where heavy enemies live, so farming and mastery reinforce each other. After a bond teaches a new odachi style, retest your old boss routes—the advantageous style can shave whole phases off fights you previously treated as wall checks.

Odachi rewards a smaller move list executed perfectly. Pick one Martial Skill as your “break” button and one as your “punish” button; everything else can wait until Master rank expands the list.
